Conor McGregor Faces Off Against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 246 – Fight Analysis and Predictions

UFC 246 is only a week away, as we get to see the long awaited return of Conor McGregor after a year and a half layoff. He’s facing another fan favorite in the game with his opponent in Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. The hype around this match is different than normal McGregor fights, and fans are eagerly ready to see an exciting fight!

The Return of "The Notorious" Conor McGregor

It’s been a year and a half since Conor was beaten and choked out by now champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Since his defeat at UFC 229, Conor has repeatedly been making headline news – and not for good reasons! When he wasn’t busy selling his whiskey, McGregor was in and out of court dealing with assault allegations.

The most recent being punching an elderly man at an Irish pub for refusing to drink his Proper 12 whiskey.

Conor’s manic actions outside of the cage has made fans question his heart for fighting and even got his coach John Kavanaugh having his doubts as well. Conor just released training photos of him looking big and strong for his 170lb bout with Cerrone.

Kavanaugh on McGregor Ahead of UFC 246

Kavanaugh tweeted, Jan 1st, last heavy spar today before going to Vegas. Can honestly say this is the best I’ve seen him and I wasn’t sure that was possible to do six months ago. You guys are in for a real treat, I’m just glad to have a good seat!”

Conor has actually been silent and focused for this upcoming fight. He has said nothing, but respectful things about Cowboy leading up to this fight and hopes for a good fight.

Cowboy Wanting to Make a Statement at UFC 246

As usual, Donald Cerrone has kept himself busy being one of the UFC’s most active fighters. In 2019 he had 4 fights winning his first two matches and losing the next two bouts against Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje.

Cowboy is just happy to get in there with a top fighter at a comfortable weight after a few tough cuts to 155.

“A lot of cutting that weight, … making it to fight week is just battling the weight cut, but now we get to go in there and have fun. Oh, man. Thank you!”- Donald Cerrone

A win over “the Notorious” Conor McGregor would be the biggest one in Cowboy’s career. It may even put him in line for a future title shot!

Fight Predictions and Betting Odds

Conor McGregor(21-4) is the slight favorite against Donald Cerrone(36-13). Websites like and Bovada have the odds being around -140 for McGregor and +174 for the underdog Cerrone.

Odds Shark and CBS Sports puts Conor at a –310 favor over the +240 Cerrone.

McGregor’s game plan for his fight against Cerrone will be his usual strategy. He will look to take the center of the cage and press Cowboy and try to finish the fight. Most likely using his dangerous left hand.

Conor McGregor vs Cowboy Cerrone UFC 246

Cowboy’s coach is very aware of the power in Conor’s left hand. His strategy is to watch out for Conor’s left hand and take him into the later rounds.

Cerrone is a notoriously slow starter and this will be an advantage for Conor, who starts fast. Although, Conor’s cardio is always a question mark and Cerrone will try to test it and outwork him. Either way this fight goes it will be very exciting and a great match to start off the year.

Both have similar fighting styles and though both are experienced BJJ Grapplers, you can expect this one to be a slugfest! Should be one hell of a match!
