If you’re taking BJJ lessons, one good way to show that you’re not just there for a couple of sessions is to invest in a high-quality Gi.
Unfortunately, because of how popular BJJ has become, more and more manufacturers are trying to get into the Gi game. This has resulted in an influx of products on the market that, let’s say – aren’t so good.
For long-time practitioners, picking out a quality Gi is easy. They’ve gone through multiple Gis already and know which ones are better than the others. However, if you’re new to BJJ, you might not have that much personal experience with BJJ Gis just yet. But, don’t worry, because we’re here to help you.
In particular, we’re here to help recommend to you one of the more classic BJJ Gis out there, the Fuji BJJ Brazilian Pride Edition Jiu Jitsu Gi.

Technical Features Summary
“Heavy and stiff” are two words that you will most likely use to describe the Fuji BJJ Brazilian Pride Edition Jiu Jitsu Gi.
It’s heavier than most Gis today. This is because of what Fuji calls as a “Special Weave”, which is their term to describe the Gis mid-weight cotton blend material.
As a result, the Fuji is heavier and does take a lot of time to break-in.
If you don’t train often, it will take a while for you to feel really comfortable and make the Gi your own.
With that said, it’s not exactly too heavy. It’s heavier than most of the lightweight Gis out there, sure, but it’s not exactly in the heavy category yet. Because of this, you might actually find the weight more comforting as it makes you feel “strong” while wearing it.
At the same time, the added weight does have the sturdy feel to it and can expect to last you a long time. This one can take a beating!
- 【Excellent material】Strong, mediumweight pearl weave fabric allows for maximum durability with minimal shrinkage.
- 【Dependable】Extra stitching along the stress points and double reinforced knee padding on the pants produces a long lasting gi.
- 【Versatile】Where lightweight and heavyweight gis meet, the middleweight takes the best qualities of both ends of the spectrum to bring you steadfast gi. The Fuji BJJ Middleweight gi is light enough for training, and heavy enough for competition.
- 【Stylish】Produces a sleek, slim look that is comfortable and strong.
- Includes Fuji patch, as well as a white belt. Not Pre-Shrunk to allow for shrinkage
The Fuji BJJ Gi is an absolute classic. It’s not flashy nor pretentious. It’s just a Gi through and through. And that’s what you’d expect from a Fuji Gi. They are after all Judogi manufacturer, so you could expect their Gi to be simplistic.
If you’re looking for something that’ll make you stand out, this isn’t for you. Although it does have this large shoulder patch, the rest of the Gi is designed to look plain. However, the patch is removable, and you can always add in patches of your own to customize the look of the Gi.
You could say that this minimalist design makes the Gi feel like a blank canvass that you can design and personalize.
The Gi is available in four different colors. There’s the classic white, blue, and black. It’s also available in pink.
Admittedly, the Gi does lack a lot of modern cities, such as ripstop fans.
All in all, this is a no-fuss and simplistic Gi that’ll cater best to beginners and amateurs who don’t know what they want in a Gi just yet.
The Fuji BJJ GI is not cheap, by any means. This means that it’s not exactly the first Gi that a beginner would consider considering its price.
Then again, it’s not exactly that much more expensive compared to other Gis. Also, if you’re a beginner, the stronger and sturdier feel of this medium-weight Gi can do wonders for your training.
Case in point, the heavier material can act as a sort of weight bag.
Of course, because it is heavier, that also means that, as a beginner, you’ll find yourself gasping for air and feeling more tired than usual.
Whether or not you prefer this is up to you.
However, there are some merits to getting used to wearing a heavier BJJ Gi than usual, as mentioned already.
To put simply, if you’re okay with a heavier-than-usual Gi, then you might want to check out the Fuji BJJ. If nothing else, you’ll get a nice little addition to your Gi rotation that’s more likely to last longer than your other Gi.
There’s a reason why the Fuji BJJ Brazilian Pride Edition Jiu Jitsu Gi has continued to sell well to this day, and it’s because it works!
Yes. You’ll find the added weight annoying at first. You might not even like it. However, the more often you wear the Gi, the more you’ll get used to it. Not to mention, once you have broken it in, you’ll find that the fit is actually quite comforting. Plus, the thicker collars aren’t exactly that easy to grab, which gives you quite the competitive advantage on your rolls! Enjoy!
