Tony Ferguson Defeats Donald Cerrone via Controversial TKO Eye Injury!

UFC 238 PPV (Pay-Per-View) event happened last night (Saturday, June 8, 2019), from inside United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

The most interesting bout of the night was a 170-pound bout between two legendary UFC warriors. Former interim lightweight champ Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson against the man with the most finishes and head kicks in UFC history, Donald “The Cowboy” Cerrone.

With these two legends clashing, you know we are in for a match! Many believe this bout should have served as the main event of UFC 238 PPV (Pay-Per-View) event. UFC’s head honcho Dana White must have been off his rocker! This was a collision of two of the most dangerous names in the game!

Tony Ferguson is a world-class puncher and an outstanding grappler. He is a 10th Planet BJJ Black Belt and TUF 13 Welterweight Tournament Champ. His most effective submissions are the D’Arce Choke, rear naked choke, and triangle choke.

His latest fight was a gruesome striking bloodbath against Anthony Pettis. He earned the TKO victory due to a corner stoppage on Pettis’ side.

Donald "The Cowboy" Cerrone

Donald Cerrone is equally good in the stand-up and on the ground. He is well versed in Muay Thai, Gaidojutsu, and is a BJJ blackbelt (under Eliot Marshall). His most dangerous submissions are triangle choke, rear naked choke, and armbar. Cerrone is excellent off his back, and even better when he controls rival’s back. He also has got some heavy hands!

Cerrone is in tip top shape – he rides on a three-fight winning skid. After an armbar win over Mike Perry at UFC Fight Night 139, Cerrone head-kicked Alexander Hernandez to sleep at UFC Fight Night 143 and outpointed Al Iaquinta after tremendous five rounds of war at UFC on ESPN+ 9, he was ready to bring the fight to target his 4th straight win.

Round 1

Cerrone opened up the bout with a quick inside low kick. Tony Ferguson swiftly fired back with a body shot. Donald Cerrone hit Tony’s face with a pair of jabs early on. Both fighters went for all or nothing as soon as the match kicked off.

Ferguson’s right hook was countered hard by Donald’s low kick. It turned into a wild brawl which escalated to a low kick exchange. Ferguson changed levels and delivered a big elbow to Cerrone’s face.

Ferguson was really starting to press for some action but Cerrone shuts it down with a good combination! Ferguson’s eye gets is cut, but he presses forward!

We see a fabulous front kick to the body, which was followed by an outstanding low kick. Good combo by Tony Ferguson, who also missed with a spinning back elbow. It even seemed Ferguson was rocked for a second, but he recovered quickly. 10-9 Cerrone.

Round 2

Tony Ferguson comes out firing early in the bout! He lands a wonderful jab right on the face and seemed like Cerrone was rocked! He quickly fires back with a nice low kick and pulls back.Ferguson cracked Cerrone open with a brutal left hook, followed by an excellent low kick. It seemed this strike hurt Donald’s eye badly!

After a few missed spinning back elbows, Ferguson lands one, slightly grazing Cowboy’s chin. Tony Ferguson continued pressing his rival and delivered another low kick that nearly dropped Cerrone.

Cerrone ate another elbow to the right side of his face, which was already hurt by Tony’s dangerous left hook. We watched a pure wild brawl during the last 15 seconds of the second frame. Punches, kicks, elbows, knees… outstanding match!

Ferguson came to fight! He came down raining punches, kicks, and elbows on Cerrone. His combos after combos backs down Cerrone and even hit him with a few after the bell! “El Cucuy” won the round with the score of 10-9.

The Result

It was an all-out war between these two competitors! Veteran Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone brought the fight to Tony Ferguson on the first part of the match, landing some really nice blows.

Ferguson then took control of the 2nd, backing Cerrone off, with some nice combinations and spinning back elbows. On that last combo, a really nice shot got through right on Cerrone’s face. As he tried to blow his nose, his face swelled up like a balloon! Bad mistake by Cerrone!

At that point Cerrone’s eye was completely shut. Sadly, the match was put to an early close and Tony Ferguson was declared the victor of the match.

Donald Cerrone drops to 36-12, 1 NC MMA; 23-9, 1 NC UFC.

What a match! Great action from both of these warriors. Sad end to a great bout! Although he won the match, Tony Ferguson was very disappointed with the outcome. That last shot he threw hit after the bell has rung and that clearly wasn’t his intent.
